Showing up for you is the New Glow Up.
Hey hey hey!!!
This blog post is a little different from the norm and since we’re keeping it real over here I might as well tell you what I struggle with. If you’re here to judge me stop reading now, it’s about to get REAL, so no negativity over here, Sis!
This is a safe space for positive, honest, and healthy feedback. Okay, now that’s out the way back to what I was saying.
Hello, my name is Tatiana and I struggle with showing up for myself. Woosaah, I feel so much better saying it out loud. Here’s my testimony;
Recently a very close friend of mine asked me two specific questions:
-
How do you show up for others?
-
Do you show up for yourself the same way?
After thinking about her questions, I quickly responded to answer question #1 (I mean that was easy). Then, I went to answer Question #2 and there was a pause. An uncomfortable PAUSE. I began to think of things I do for myself. My weekly bubble baths, working out, buying my favorite wine, and watching my favorite shows. However, that did not answer the question. So, it left me thinking, “What do I do for others that I also do for myself?” My head was completing spinning because I couldn’t answer the question. Frustration came over me quickly because I thought I had it all together- yeah right!
Here’s the thing, it’s so easy for us to care for others but when it’s time to return the love and invest in ourselves, we cheat. Still not following? Okay here’s an example:
-
How many times have you encouraged someone to start that business, take that trip, or just take that leap of faith?
-
How many times have you been a listening ear for a family member or friend?
-
How many times have you been the hype woman?
Okay, if you were able to answer these three questions we are on to something. Now let’s try this:
-
How many times have you encouraged yourself to start that business, take that trip, or take that leap of faith?
-
How many times have you allowed someone else to listen to you (therapist, friend, or family member)?
-
How many times have you been your own hype woman?
If you’re anything like me, you may have realized that you don’t show up for yourself the same way that you do for others. Listen, that was okay! But, now it’s time to make some changes. Anytime you second guess yourself, remember at the end of the day you should have faith in you first. Truly, how can we encourage, love, support, and make time for other people but we don’t do the same for ourselves?
How you show up for yourself will speak volumes when it’s time to show up for others.
Now, don’t get me wrong God and the Bible remind us to be selfless and love thy neighbor. How can “my cup runneth over” if you are not pouring into your cup first? You can’t fill the cup of your neighbor or those you love if you’re running on “empty.” If you are not careful you will try to pour into a loved one’s cup and find your cup to be empty.
Now you’re empty and you can’t help yourself or anyone else.
As we journey through life, I am learning the importance of facing the things we don’t really want to face about ourselves. Learning to unlearn bad habits and grow spiritually. I am learning to embrace saying NO so I can say YES to myself. It’s okay to show up for others and for yourself. Say it with me, “Show up for yourself the same way you show up for others.”
“Life is a journey. Show up. Be Bold. Stand out”
Love,
Tatiana

July 9, 2018 at 9:18 pmI am the same way. I encourage others and then I get so fearful when it comes to promoting myself or talking about things I am accomplishing. I am a bad hype man for myself

July 11, 2018 at 5:34 amLoved loved loved this! I struggle a lot with showing up for myself even more so now as a mother. It’s hard putting yourself out on front street and of course the fear of judgement creeps in constantly. As you can see, your courage will and can inspire others to step out on faith and share their stories. We all have more in common than we think! So thank you for sharing. I love everything about this!

July 11, 2018 at 6:09 amThank you!!!! We all are struggling one way or another. I can only imagine being a new Mommy and having to deal with that at all. However, you are creating a space for new Mommies and that’s so dope. I hope God continues to allow me to share my journey and help/heal other women along the way. Thank you so much girl!!
